John Mracek, Chief Executive Officer
Most recently, John was Vice President and General Manager of Distributed Commerce at Shopping.com where he ran the company's advertising network and was responsible for merchant sales and service, product management, business development as well as partner account management. Prior to Shopping.com, John was Vice President of Advertising Products at Yahoo where he managed both graphical and display ad products and oversaw the introduction of Yahoo's SmartAds. Previous roles included: President of AdKnowledge, a pioneer in the early days of online advertising management and measurement, as well as CEO of Covia, an Enterprise Software company. John earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Computer Science from MIT.
Behnam Rezaei, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer
Behnam A. Rezaei leads NetSeer's team in the design and implementation of its technological innovations. The primary inventor of the company's ten patent applications to date, Behnam has a broad range of expertise including complex systems, random networks, information dynamics, and distributed and P2P networking and information processing, and is widely published in scientific and technical publications. Prior to founding NetSeer, Behnam was a lead researcher on several projects in spam filtering, identification of the structure and dynamics in large-scale biological networks, and the development of P2P network clients. He was also a lead developer of UCLA's BruNet P2P network client at the university's complex systems laboratory. Behnam received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Vwani Roychowdhury, Co-Founder and Chief Scientist
Dr. Vwani Roychowdhury, Professor of Electrical Engineering at UCLA, established the theoretical foundation of NetSeer's groundbreaking technology. An internationally recognized researcher in mathematics, statistics, physics, electrical engineering and computer science, Professor Roychowdhury is known for innovative problem solving in the fields of learning theory and systems, statistical modeling and processing of large-scale and high dimensional datasets, peer-to-peer (P2P) networking and complex systems, distributed and parallel processing, bioinformatics, quantum computing and nanoelectronics. He has consulted with major corporations including Intel, HP, AT&T, IBM and Warner Bros., has co-authored three books on artificial intelligence and neural networks, has written over 150 technical and scientific publications, holds two U.S. patents, and was recently featured by The New Scientist, Nature, The Guardian, and the BBC for his breakthroughs in social networks and dynamics, spam filtering and P2P networking. Dr. Roychowdhury received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
Terry Opdendyk – ONSET Ventures
Terry Opdendyk founded ONSET Ventures in 1984 and has specialized in working with information and medical technology start-ups for more than 30 years. Prior to launching the firm, Terry was President of VisiCorp, guiding the software publishing company from inception into an industry leader. Early in his career, Terry worked as a technical manager for Hewlett-Packard and later headed Intel Corporation’s microcomputer systems business and microprocessor development activities.
At ONSET Ventures, Terry maintains a broad spectrum of investment interests. He serves on the boards of both public and private companies and has helped guide start-ups from initial concepts to world-class companies, including Adaptive Planning, APX, Arcot Systems, Callidus Software, Nektar Therapeutics, NetSeer, Oddmobb, Sentilla and Truviso.
Terry received a B.S. from the Michigan State University Honors College and an M.S. from Stanford University. Terry also is a Fellow at the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley.
Dave Ryan – Mission Ventures
Dave Ryan has been a founding Mission Ventures Managing Partner since 1996. He has 28 years of venture capital experience focusing on early-stage information technology and service companies.
Prior to Mission Ventures, beginning in 1983, he served as General Partner of Copley Venture Partners, a Boston-based venture capital firm focused on early-stage investing in information technology, business services and healthcare. Prior to Copley, Dave held positions in strategic planning, business development and plant modernization with Medusa Corp, a Midwest-based manufacturer of industrial materials.
Dave holds a Bachelor's degree from Northeastern University and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Case Western Reserve University. He is currently a Director of Access360 Media, Active Storage, BMS Reimbursement Management, NetSeer, Nirvanix, and WorkWell Systems.
David Carlick
David Carlick is a digital media veteran and an Independent Director working with a variety of companies in the online media and marketing space.
David is a venture partner at Rho Ventures where he focuses on early stage investments in digital media and marketing.
Current boards include ReachLocal (NASDAQ, RLOC) a global leader in digital media services to SMB, where he is Chairman; Grocery Shopping Network (private,) providing online services to grocery chains and their shoppers; Effective Measure (private,) Australian based internet measurement company analyzing traffic of over 600mm users in Oceana, Southeast Asia, Middle East, and Africa; Brandscreen, leading DSP in Southeast Asia; and Adventure Capital, an early stage Australian seed stage venture firm.
Prior, David was a managing director and venture partner of VantagePoint Venture Partners, where he was involved in numerous investments, including Intermix Media (parent company of MySpace,) and ReachLocal.
Past board positions include Founding Director at International Network Services (NASDAQ INSS,) sold to Lucent 1999; Ask Jeeves (NASDAQ ASKJ,) sold to IAC in 2005; Chairman Intermix Media (AMEX IMIX,) parent of MySpace, acquired by News Corp 2005; ReachLocal Australia, acquired by ReachLocal in 2009; and founding director at I/Pro, early internet measurement company (acquired by CMGI 2001.)
His business experience also includes founding Carlick Advertising (acquired by Poppe Tyson in 1993) after nearly 15 years serving technology startups such as Cypress Semiconductor, Network Equipment Technologies, Network General and Silicon Graphics. He became Executive Vice President at Poppe Tyson, where he co-founded poppe.com, which spun out and merged with Modem Media (NASDAQ: MMPT,) and DoubleClick, which was spun out, went public and was subsequently sold to Google.
He holds a B.S. in business accounting from San Jose State University.
